Peter Lundberg’s concrete sculptures Dancing Man and Mona O were formed by digging trenches at Mona Farm, constructing forms in reinforced steel and then casting them in concrete. Some sections are wrapped in black plastic to create a smooth white surface. Other surfaces were unwrapped, to pick up the character of the attached earth. These two works remained buried on site for over 6 months. The resulting casts were then excavated, raised by a crane and moved to their final location at Mona Farm. They are impressive in scale and material but seem paradoxically fragile. The works become a large scale lens through which the surrounding landscape can be viewed, rising out of the earth and standing tall enough to include the sky. Lundberg’s pieces, with their immense weight and hidden structural intelligence (joining concrete to stainless steel), exemplify pure emotion as they tower over Mona Farm.
