Cover Shot by James Rogers is typical of his work which makes industrial materials (like the metal used in this sculpture) look so delicate, weightless and smooth. The joins are hidden or discreet, adding to the effect. One of the most important features of Rodgers' sculptures is that they touch the ground so lightly. There are no huge plinths or bases and no awkward struts holding the structure upright. His sculptures seem to float, which is an amazing feat given they can only be lifted with a crane. Rodgers hand cuts the pieces using a blow torch and then assembles them with an electric welding gun. This parallels the work of a Chinese ink master, with a brush delicately capturing the essence of form.
