James Angus visited mathematics to borrow a three dimensional model of differential geometry to create this work titled Cast Iron Inversion. The cast iron surface twists itself into rust and back again. It is a crude binary model of urban renewal. Steel and iron, painted, corroded, repainted.
Angus marvelled at the columns in New York City where he lives, where columns were given their first coat of paint a century ago. He then looked at the layer upon layer of protective paint on those columns which seemed a reflection of the painting of modern life.
