'Bicycle in the Snow' by Chinese artist Cao Hui is a literal representation of its form; a sculpture based on a bicycle exposed to a cycle of snowfalls and melts. The persistent exposure to snow and water eventually resulted in a transformed sculpture that was exquisitely redrafted out of marble using a dentist drill.
Hui is known for taking ordinary objects and constructing them in unlikely materials that provide a surreal essence and explore their anatomical nature. This sculpture is one of Hui's 'prettier' works, with more recent collections exploring subject matters such as human flesh. Hui aims to trigger the viewer's emotions through his works, including surprise, sorrow, anger, and laughter.
